François Morel, founder of Quelle Est Belle Company, has been developing bird calls for more than 40 years. Each whistle is crafted from sustainable local wood sourced near his atelier, where he creates his unique and beautiful calls that help us learn to communicate with birds.
We have had the honour of collaborating with François to develop lacquered whistles using an Urushi lacquering process influenced by techniques found in Japan and China. The resin is moisture-resistant, mould-resistant, and food-safe. Our choice of Urushi came from our research and development into finding a non-toxic paint free from harsh chemicals. Each whistle is hand painted in BOWER’s small atelier and takes around one month to cure and set.

Common Tern
The Common Tern is known for its graceful flight and shrill call, earning it the nickname “sea-swallow.” Its migratory route brings it to Europe at the start of spring where it then departs for warmer climates over winter.
